OCTOBER 2006 EVENTS:

WEAPONS 9 MUAY THAI held the first "SATURDAY NIGHT SMOKERS" Amateur Thaiboxing event on October 28, 2006. This premier episode of the "SATURDAY NIGHT SMOKERS" series was received favorably by the fighters, trainers and crowd. The fighters did what they had to do in the ring and the promoters, trainers and Officials did what they had to do outside the ring. The success of this event was due argely to everyone who 'lent a hand' to help out with anything they could. The "SATURDAY NIGHT SMOKERS" series is designed to give new amateur fighters a chance to display what they have learned at their studios. The action takes place in a professional boxing ring, but in an atmosphere that would make beginning fighters comfortable. The younger fighters fight without declaring a winner. This makes the experience less stressful. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Kelly (sports and internal medicine) of the New Jersey Athletic Control Board and author of articles, books and instructional videos. His website can be found at www.drkelly.us. This event was sanctioned by USKBA ACTION SPORTS in compliance with the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, Commissioner Larry Hazzard, Sr.

The results are as follows:
Amateur Thaiboxing - Marcus Fisher def Sergio Aguirre by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Amateur Thaiboxing - Nicholas Harrison def Xavi Ramos by TKO at 1:43 of Round 2.
Amateur Thaiboxing - Jennifer LaCava def Jessica Napolitano by majority decision (28-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Juniors Exibition Bout - Darryl Campbell and Benjamin Ashurov fought an exhibition.
Juniors Exhibition Bout - Yusef Walker and George Bugayenko fought an exhibition.
Exhibition Bout - Poneyboy Miller and Melvin Colon fought an exhibiion.
Exhibition Bout - Derrick George and Danny Trubnikov fought an exhibition.
Exhibition Bout - Michael Genovese and Mongo Torres fought an exhibition.
Exhibition Bout - Jimmy Smith and Dave Salvador fought an exhibition.

We would be greatly remiss if we didn't send a huge thanks to the participating camps; Extreme Muay Thai, 5-Points Fitness, Sit-Dragon, Black Eagle, and NY Muay Thai. Without their support there would have been no show. Additional thanks go out to USKBA Head Referee Donnie Carolei and 'new' USKBA Scorekeeper Lana Shipman and USKBA Timekeeper Annie Ackerman.

SEPTEMBER 2006 EVENTS:

On 9/29, Louis Neglia's Combat at the Capitale series will feature our own Derek Riddick, Jim "B-52" Smith and the Quiet Storm, Chris Tran. The Capitale is in the heart of NYC's China Town district and makes for a great venue for a night of fights.

JUNE 2006 EVENTS:

June 23, 2006 - Combat at the Capitale: Congratulations to Weapons 9 fighters Chris Tran, Jim "B-52" Smith and Derek "The Corporate Raider" Riddick for excellent showings at Louis Neglia's latest Combat at the Capitale in NYC. Here's how we called it:

Chris Tran: Though giving up 10 lbs., Chris nearly knocked out TSK's Nick Pace in the 3rd round. Unfortunately, Chris lost on points in a very close match. We think this was a questionable decision by the judges, and we look forward to Chris's next bout against an opponent of comparable weight.

Derek Riddick: In the night's featured event Derek "The Corporate Raider" Riddick waged battle against one of Mongolia's prized fighters Daivve Octanbayor. Though Octanbayor brought a strong right cross it proved of little worth against Derek's arsenal of leg kicks, knees and punches. Result: victory by TKO in the 3rd.
